Morning: The Mystical Heights of Sari Salltik
  • The Drive Up: Start from Tirana to beat the afternoon mountain heat. Head directly past the town of Kruja up the winding, panoramic road to Mount Krujë.
  • The Shrine: Perched at 1,176 meters above sea level, the Temple of Sari Salltik is a highly sacred cave shrine belonging to the Bektashi Sufi order.

Itinerary

Tirana - Kruja

Stop at Sari Salltik, Free admission.

 A temple dedicated to the 13th-century Alevi Turkish dervish credited with bringing Islam to the Balkans.

In the morning, the tour guide will pick you up from Tirana and start the journey towards Mount Sari Salltik. Enjoy the guide’s insights and a scenic ride along a panoramic mountain road to visit this holy site, which holds great significance in the Bektashi faith. Perched at 1,176 meters above sea level, the cave shrine offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

After visiting Sari Salltik, continue to the historic city of Kruja, where the guided walking tour begins at the Old Bazaar—one of the oldest and largest in Albania, filled with traditional souvenirs and handicrafts. The guide will provide explanations during the walk, while free time for shopping will be available later.

Next, proceed inside the Kruja Castle, strolling through its ancient walls and learning about its history. From the outside, the guide will introduce you to the Skanderbeg Museum, dedicated to Albania’s national hero, as well as the Ethnographic Museum, the Turkish Bath, the Skanderbeg Olive, and the castle’s secret entrance.

Skanderbeg Museum: Marvel at the striking socialist-realist architecture housing replicas of the national hero’s iconic goat-headed helmet and sword.

The Legendary Stronghold: Head back down the mountain to the Castle of Kruja, a 5th-century fortress that served as the epicenter of legendary leader Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg’s resistance against the Ottoman Empire. Unlike other ruined fortresses, this site features fully intact, active traditional houses and museum buildings within its ancient stone walls.

Free Time / Lunch After soaking in the culture and history, enjoy your free time to explore the Old Bazaar, take photos, visit the museums, or have lunch at your own pace. IMPORTANT: During off season November- May most of the museums may be closed on Monday.

Optional: National Ethnographic Museum: Located inside an exceptionally preserved, authentic 18th-century Ottoman mansion, this freshly restored museum gives you a peek into centuries-old Albanian family life, traditional clothes, and craft tools. Entrance Fee not included.
